Text on Clothing
I'm not sure why so many people wear texts on their clothing and on their skin. Perhaps they feel that such portable writing serves to speak out for what they believe in. For example, People get tattoos that mean something important to them and it is a good conversation starter. Also if there is writing on clothing it attracts people with similar tastes. For example, If a person is wearing a sort from their favorite band, other people who like that same band may say something. Or perhaps writing is unavoidable. For example, a person may buy a sweatshirt for its comfort, not for the fact that the companies name is on it.

Emily- I agree with what you said. Did you think about if someone would buy something for its comfort even if they didn't like the text that was on it? I say this because i am wondering if you think people would wear text that are not important to them, but they like the piece of clothes. I think you should expand the end a little more. It feels like the ending was cut off.
ReplyDeleteI am interested in this notion that writing is unavoidable. Graphic tee's are all that stores sell to the university student. But why is this? Why do you have to accept that your clothing is emblazoned with text? How early do you think the fashion for "putting on text" began? Certainly, jewelry inscribed with text has been available for a good long time, but what about fabric texts?
