Advice
My Advice to those just starting out would be to write exactly what you think and don't change your opinion to please others. Write for your self and no one else because as long as it makes you happy nothing else matters. If your writing is different from others it will stand out and get more people to read what you are writing. Also have fun with your writing. Don't take it so seriously because than you will just stress your self out and your best writing comes when you are relaxed.
Poem
He is arguing that language is more powerful than images. He shows us a great image in our mind that is more beautiful because of the fact that our imaginations show us what is most beautiful to ourselves. He is a really good writer and got his point across very well.
4 Letter Word Projects-Writting?
These projects are not writing although they do argue something. I believe these projects were more powerful than words. I really liked this project though because of the fact that it didn't involve words. I feel i could get my point across better than i could if i was writing an essay. I suppose some people could find this a form of writing but i just believe pictures are art even if they do tell a story. The reason most people confuse this project with writing is because many people believe writing is a form of art too so they are very similar but also very different.

Twitter Parody
they are talking to "no one and everyone". If i used twitter i would not worry about who my audience is because most of the people who follow you have no connection with you in real life. I feel more distant with my audience in online writing spaces because of this. I don't know them and saying something online is a lot less meaningful than to your face or even over the phone. Stalkers or other random people with no life are the people who are reading your tweets and some people like this because in some ways they are getting the attention they so desperately crave. I believe twitter could be a great space for organizations or important causes because it is a great way to get information across at any given point but they way it is used by most people is not valuable writing. the purpose is to feel like people actually care about the ordinary things you do though out the day.
Zadie Smith
President Obama needs to have many voices in order to please the majority of people so he can be reelected. I'm sure he bases his speeches based on the audience he is talking to. He needs to have the skills to manipulate the crowds and tell them what they want to hear even if he is making empty promises. These promises give the people hope and hope helps build a stronger future. Always staying optimistic keeps people happy and after all that is his job. Some people find this makes the president "fake", but everyone including poets use two voices. Poems that are written can be interpreted in many different ways. This way everyone who reads them can relate and put themselves in the poets position because after all as humans we only like to read things we can relate to. This is why two voices is important. Multiple voices please a larger audience than one voice.
6 Questions
1) Why do we need two voices?
2) Cant we just be ourselves and use the one voice we believe in?
3) Doesn't having two voices show indecision and our uncertainty?
4) The author mentions a mask. what do we need this mask for?
5) Are we scared to show who we really are so we hide ourselves?
6) Although at the end the author says to recognize your own voice. I feel as if she is contradicting the two voices part. Which is really better, having two voices or listening to your own voice?

Twitter Audience
When wearing text I'm not too concerned with who is reading it. Yes there will be some people who will comment on what i am wearing but i barely even remember that that is what i am wearing. I wear text for my own purposes just like i use twitter for my own purposes. sometimes i tweet a quote i believe is memorable and i want to save it in a place i can come back to later. i am not looking for people to comment on what i tweet, i tweet for selfish purposes.

Crayon Copy
Words can mean Anything. Being able to change your tone of VOICE for different subjects, will only mean well. IF you can change your voice from formal to informal and to represent different PEOPLE it leads to ultimate flexibility and adaptability. There is a picture of a kid with a cross necklace versus a business man. It is written in purple crayon and the paper is positioned in port rate form. "anything" is written in script, and "people" is scribbled.
Flexibility of Voice
The writer is influenced by the writing implement, a crayon. the writer tends to write in a more informal way than they would normally write. The writer becomes more expressive because of this. Although the writing tends to not be a "good". this is because it is so informal and in todays society, "good" is considered formal and educated.

What i really think about the writing space that Twitter offers is that it is not intelligent writing. It os a space to write what is happening in the moment or to tell jokes. It is a place to talk to people based on similarities. Twitter is more of a social network rather than a writing space.
Text on Clothing
I'm not sure why so many people wear texts on their clothing and on their skin. Perhaps they feel that such portable writing serves to speak out for what they believe in. For example, People get tattoos that mean something important to them and it is a good conversation starter. Also if there is writing on clothing it attracts people with similar tastes. For example, If a person is wearing a sort from their favorite band, other people who like that same band may say something. Or perhaps writing is unavoidable. For example, a person may buy a sweatshirt for its comfort, not for the fact that the companies name is on it.

The Problem of Describing Trees
There are some actions that are hard to describe with words. Some actions can only be described by showing them in a video or with pictures. This is the same with colors. How can one describe what the color blue looks like? Sure the author can use objects of that color as an example, but when a certain shade of blue is desired only a picture can do. For example, when Robert Hass pictures the trees dancing he has trouble putting all the motions he sees into words. He keeps correcting himself because words can't change the way videos can. Videos or pictures can show much more than words can describe.

Save
My four letter word is save. I find this word fascinating because my friend is a drug addict and many people think because of that she's worthless but she's not. i will probably use images that argue that even if you're addicted to something theres a way to turn your life around.

girl/boy
Girl: Daughter, Sister, niece, cousin, she, lady, miss
Boy: son, brother, nephew, cousin, he, lad, junior
Boy: son, brother, nephew, cousin, he, lad, junior
can images do what words do?
Images can do much more than words can do. A picture is worth a thousand words. For example when people who are pro life are holding up signs against abortion, they mostly use pictures to persuade people to believe what they believe in. A picture of a mangled infant is going to affect a person more than an essay on the subject. It is also a quick an easy way to get their point across. (This in no way reflects my feeling on the subject of abortion.)

readability
Reading a good piece of literature is like watching the dance competition in the final scene in the film "Stomp the Yard". The work of literature must capture the readers attention just like how everyone was entertained and couldn't take their eyes off the dancers. Also the writer must get straight to the point and not be repetitive. Who wants to read the same thing multiple times? In the final scene of the film the dancer does a move he hasn't tried in a long time. surprise the reader every once and a while.

Project 3
I've been thinking about my own draft for project 3 and I have to tell you that it was very emotional to write about. It brought back a lot of old memories I've tried to burry. It also helped me realize a lot so I'm glad we wrote this.
I keep thinking about my project 3, and I'm pretty sure my next [rhetorical] move will be the use of flashing back. This will help the reader put themselves in my place and see where I am coming from. The use of details will also help so the reader can see everything instead of coming to their own conclusions.

Home
What is home? Home is a place of comfort and love. Home is familiarity. A home doesn’t have to be a house, it’s a place you feel safe. A person can feel like home when you love them because home is where the heart is. The first thing I thought of when I asked my self this question was you.

Hypertext Quiz
The internet is very exposing. Millions of sites with the same topic can all be linked together and are easy to access. These Hypertext links bringing different sites together to be collaborate on an idea is the creators aiming for hypermediacy. A page on the internet can be viewed and commented on, which helps pass on ideas. This can be viewed as a good thing because the idea will always be available immediately, and the ability to comment and view other sites on the same subject help expand knowledge. The negative effect is having important works of writing not highly publicized and advertised since not everybody will view these sites. Another negative would be the ability for people on Facebook to be able to see everything written there. Something you write on Facebook can be viewed by everyone which is why colleges and businesses check peoples Facebooks for anything bad.

What role does performance or writing space play in the making of meaning?
In todays generation the spoken word has become much weaker than in previous generations. Todays generation needs the approval of their peers and they do so by speaking with uncertainty. Words such as "like" and phrases such as "you know?" have become common to hear in the spoken word. An interrogative tone is used to make sure whats being said will agree with our peers opinions and if it doesn't agree, it is easier to back down and change what was just said.

Are You Afraid To Write?
I am not afraid to write. I feel like nothing can hurt me when I am writing. This may be because I am young, and like most young people, I feel fearless, like nothing could hurt me. Maybe this is a good thing. Instead of playing it safe, I take chances and try new things. Or maybe it just means I don't take writing as seriously as Jacque Deuida. This could be true, I mean, I never intent to be a writer, but maybe he takes wring too seriously. Maybe he should just let go and write, and not take wring too seriously. I believe if you take things too seriously, you won't be happy, and isn't that the purpose of life? To be happy? Never take anything too seriously, just life your life.

Chapter 1 Writing Assignment
In "When Writers Speak," Arthur Krystal confides: "I am smarter when I'm writing."(88) This is because, with practice, your writing can only improve. Every time a person writes, he learns new information, whether it be about himself, his writing, or the world around him. Great writers didn't get their work published by luck, they had to practice over and over again, and even fail many times before the eventually succeeded.
Arthur Krystal also confides that "There's something about writing, when we regard ourselves as writers, that affects how we think and inevitably, how we express ourselves." (89) This means that writing is a form of showing our feeling and opinions on certain matters. Writing is a form of expression. This includes keeping diaries, journals, and blogs to organize thoughts and feelings. Blogs are completely different than keeping a diary or a journal in which it is a digital form of expressing oneself. Blogs are a a lot less private, and anyone who finds your page can read it. This negatively impacts the expression. Others should not be reading your private thoughts. Putting your feeling on the internet is a cry for attention that people don't need. You may also write differently knowing your work will be read rather than writing exactly how you feel.

Is The Machine Using Us?
Yes, the Machine, being the internet, is in fact using us. We put all of our information out on the internet, and this makes the internet grow stronger each and every day. The internet was made by us, and now it needs us to continue to exist. Where would the internet be without us? Or is the real question, where would we be without the internet? We as Americans use the internet for just about everything. It is a quick solution for all of our problems. We can find the weather, all the latest news, and talk to long distance friends with the click of a button. This is the age of technology and maybe the internet is using us, but aren't we using the internet as well?
Diction-Chapter 6
In Trimble's chapter 6 "Diction", he mainly talks about conciseness, vigorous verbs, and freshness. The use of vigorous verbs felt rather familiar to me. All through out grade school teachers would always tell me to expand my vocabulary. Although, I've always had trouble doing so. Writing is not one of my strong points, but i hope to improve. After reading this chapter, i received a lot of insight on what i need to improve on. I should not use vague pronouns such as "it". I need to identify and give things the dignity of their names. I also need to qualify and load words with meaning by using adjectives. Hopefully after following this advice, my writing will improve.

Heineken Comercial
In the Heineken Commercial, the producers draw a parallel between woman's love for shoes and males fondness over beer. Through out the years there have always been stereotypes that woman love to shop and have thousands of shoes and that men will always have a cold beer in their hand. The producers play with this stereotype by showing women going crazy over an oversized closet filled with shoes and then showing the men going even crazier cover a walk in refrigerator filled with beer.
This commercial doesn't show the beer until the ending of the commercial to build up a climatic effect. Showing the parallel between beer and shoes proves just how good Heineken beer is and makes men want to buy it more. This commercial is probably mostly shown on channels mostly males watch such as ESPN and the humor is a good way of drawing the consumers in.

AT&T Comercial
In the AT&T commercial these two children that appear to be fictitious because of the clothing they are wearing, get lost. They leave bread crumb behind to find their way home but the trail gets ruined in the city. At this point, the children decided to take out their cell phone and use the GPS system on it.
This commercial lets the audience know that AT&T technology is better than any other method. It shows that AT&T is faster, more reliable and can be used by all ages. AT&T also shows their logo in the city skyline as a subliminal message to use their service.

Pantene Comercial
In the Pantene commercial the man appeared to be homeless because of the dirty torn up clothing he was wearing, but he also seemed happy as he was playing violin on the street. The girl also appeared to be homeless because she was only shown on the street with no family. The girl was being bullied and appeared very unhappy.
It was very inspirational to watch the man give his violin to the girl. He wanted to share his happiness with her. This may impact the audience enough to have them consider buying the product. It seemed that the man also inspired the girl to play again which helped her speak up and make a stand. she spoke in a language everyone could understand, music. This, along with her hair, made her shine which is the motto for Pantene.

here i am at hofstra
here i am at hofstra and I'm blogging. i usually don't use the computer much because i never had one until college and honestly i really don't like it id much rather be outside doing something. i also don't like technology in general like i don't really watch tv either. but i guess now i have to because pretty much everything is on the computer now which i find really sad. i fell like you lose so much personal connection with people because you're hiding behind your word and Facebook and then people don't know how to act when they're actually with someone. and ill admit I'm on my phone constantly but i also go out and socialize. i love going to the gym i do yoga every day. i also play soccer and have joined a few clubs as a way to make friends. I'm majoring in environmental resources because ever since i was little i knew i wanted to help animals. i would never even kill a bug. but it mad me really upset to know that people would hurt their pets so i knew i couldn't see that everyday, id be too depressed. so after taking earth science and ap environmental i decided i wanted to do something in that field.
