When wearing text I'm not too concerned with who is reading it. Yes there will be some people who will comment on what i am wearing but i barely even remember that that is what i am wearing. I wear text for my own purposes just like i use twitter for my own purposes. sometimes i tweet a quote i believe is memorable and i want to save it in a place i can come back to later. i am not looking for people to comment on what i tweet, i tweet for selfish purposes.
Thanks for the thoughtful post. To some extent, I agree with this post. I definitely wear and tweet for myself- but at the same time, do you really think you're completely heedless of what other people might think? I only wear what I want and I only tweet what suits me, but I definitely consider what other people might think. Do you think the environment changes what text is appropriate to wear?
ReplyDeleteThanks you for posting your opinion, Dayna! I find it interesting that you say you wear text for your own selfish reasons. There has never been a time when you bought a shirt hoping that someone else will read it and think it would be funny? I definitely see where you're coming from, however. Interesting perspective, keep it up!
ReplyDeleteThis is an interesting post. But have you considered the expansive audiences to which your online writing can reach? I ask this because I wonder what the purpose of tweeting is if you don't really care what others think or say. Why don't you keep your personal thoughts and opinions in a private journal? I also don't understand why you refuse to capitalize your "i"s.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the fact that sometimes we don't really think about an audience when we wear text. I am with you, sometimes I don't even remember what clothes I'm wearing. But have you thought about the relation between wearing text and fandom? Sometimes people wear clothes of their favorite bands, movies, shows just so other people who like them as well might strike up a conversation?
ReplyDeleteAlso this might seem like a small thing, but it really bothers me that you did not use proper capitalization. It might be just me, but that fact really distracts me from what could be a meaningful post.
I also tweet for selfish purposes. I want people to read what I tweet though, or else I wouldn't want to have any followers. I tweet whatever comes to my mind, or anything like that but I still hope that someone will maybe retweet or reply to me. Although I hope for replies, I am not upset when I do not get any. But I am still subconsciously hoping for some kind of recognition.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your honest post. I agree with you, for the most part. Sometimes I wear clothing to promote certain things. Yes, I wear things for my own purposes and similar to you, I tweet for selfish purposes. Have you thought about the idea of inevitably expecting an audience from wearing text or by tweeting? I am asking this because I think that the reason why text exists on clothing or on tattoos is for others to read it as well. Also, being able to tweet a quote and come back to is, is a good reason to have a twitter but would you still have an account if you did not have followers? Just a thought for you to think about.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with what you are saying. A lot of tweeting is for someone to go back and look at what they said from a previous time. My question would be is that all that there is on twitter? Does everyone post selfishly? or are there people out there who try and use it mabye as something else.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the thoughtful post. I agree with what you say, but only sometimes. There are times when I don't care what people think, however there is a reason why I bought the shirt. So there are occasion where I expect it to be read. I can respect the fact that you tweet for yourself. I do not have a Twitter so I don't no what it is like and I cannot criticize it.
